Therapeutic and pharmacological effects:
Lutein and zeaxanthin are natural carotenoids and precursors of Vitamin A that form the two primary pigments in the eye. They help protect the eyes from harmful rays like ultraviolet (UV) light. Studies have shown that higher levels of these compounds in eye tissue are associated with better vision, especially in low light or glare conditions. Lutein and zeaxanthin can also help prevent blurred vision and cataracts.
DHA, a type of Omega-3 fatty acid, supports vision and eye health, alleviates dry eye syndrome, reduces the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and enhances tear production.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin commonly used as an antioxidant. It prevents the formation of free radicals and is used to improve or prevent blurred vision, vision loss, and eye inflammation.
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. Long-term use of Vitamin C may reduce the risk of cataracts and vision loss due to macular degeneration.
Zinc plays a key role in maintaining vision and forming eye pigments. Zinc deficiency can lead to night blindness. High concentrations of zinc are found in the eye, particularly in the retina and choroid. Severe zinc deficiency can cause changes in the retina and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). Zinc also acts as an antioxidant.
Side effects:
This product is safe and well-tolerated at the recommended doses.
Rare side effects may include diarrhea, abdominal pain, other gastrointestinal disturbances, dizziness, fatigue, weakness, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, headache, rash, and a metallic taste in the mouth.
Drug interactions:
Concurrent use with calcium reduces zinc absorption.
When taken with Vitamin A, the presence of Vitamin E enhances the effects of Vitamin A.
Cholestyramine, colestipol, and orlistat reduce the absorption of Vitamin E. Vitamin E may increase cyclosporine absorption. Vitamin E can increase the metabolism of drugs processed by the CYP3A4 enzyme, such as chemotherapy agents (e.g., etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine), alfentanil, fentanyl, and midazolam. Concurrent use of Vitamin E with these drugs may lower their blood levels. If taking Vitamin E supplements (400 IU or more) daily alongside anticoagulants, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Vitamin C increases the effect of estrogen-containing contraceptives and reduces the effect of protease inhibitors (e.g., indinavir, ritonavir).
Zinc reduces the efficacy of penicillamine. Zinc decreases the absorption of antibiotics from the quinolone family (ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, gemifloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin) and the tetracycline family (tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline). These antibiotics should be taken 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after Perfect Vision 3® capsules. Zinc interferes with the absorption of cisplatin.
Barbiturates (phenytoin and phenobarbital) reduce the absorption of this capsule.
DHA, when taken with antihypertensive drugs, may cause a drop in blood pressure. Fish oil and DHA enhance the effects of anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, enoxaparin, ticlopidine, clopidogrel). Consult your doctor or pharmacist if using these medications.
