Therapeutic and pharmacological effects:
- pylori (a type of bacterium that thrives in the acidic pH of the stomach) forms colonies on the stomach lining and is stable in stomach acid. To treat it, a triple or quadruple therapy regimen (two types of antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitor like omeprazole) is prescribed, which can cause side effects.
It is worth noting that the term ‘postbiotic’ refers to substances derived after the microorganisms that are no longer alive, or in other words, inanimate, dead, or inactivated. The microbes comprising a postbiotic may be intact cells or structural fragments of microbes, such as cell walls. Postbiotics may offer a novel therapeutic approach to health and serve as a safer alternative to probiotics.
Non-viable Lactobacillus reuteri in Pyloshot® as a paraprobiotic, upon entering the stomach, binds to the receptors on the surface of H. pylori, disrupting its attachment to the stomach mucus and facilitating its removal through natural gastrointestinal movements. As a result, it significantly reduces the amount of H. pylori in the stomach. Using L. reuteri DSM17648 as an adjunct therapy for H. pylori infection significantly increases the eradication rate to over 90%.
Probiotic strains in this product help reduce potential side effects of H. pylori treatment (such as acute gastroenteritis and those caused by antibiotic use) and are effective in eradicating or preventing H. pylori infections. Probiotics improve digestive health by alleviating symptoms such as indigestion, constipation, and abdominal pain and reducing the incidence of adverse effects from antibiotic therapy.
Calcium carbonate and magnesium oxide are used as antacids in the treatment of dyspepsia and play a role in maintaining electrolyte balance and the proper functioning of digestive enzymes. Zinc is also effective in maintaining the appropriate acid-base balance in the stomach.
Side effects:
Most probiotics are naturally present in the digestive system and are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Probiotics are usually well-tolerated, with the most common side effect being mild bloating, which typically subsides with continued use. If allergic reactions such as skin rashes, itching, dizziness, coughing, or other respiratory issues occur, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.
Drug interactions:
Antibiotics: Concurrent use of antibiotics with probiotics may reduce the effectiveness of the probiotics. Additionally, calcium, magnesium, and zinc can reduce the absorption of tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics. It is recommended to take Pyloshot® 2 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after taking these antibiotics.
Bisphosphonates: Cations such as calcium and magnesium can decrease the absorption of bisphosphonates like alendronate. Therefore, Pyloshot® should be taken at least 2 hours apart from bisphosphonates.
Iron: Zinc competes with iron for absorption, so they should not be taken together. However, if simultaneous use is necessary, it is recommended to take them with food to prevent interference with each other’s absorption.
Levothyroxine: Supplements containing calcium carbonate and magnesium can reduce the absorption of levothyroxine. Therefore, it is recommended to take Pyloshot® and levothyroxine at least 4 hours apart.
Warnings and precautions:
This product is suitable for adults and children over 9 years old. Therefore, it should only be used in children under 9 years of age with a doctor’s prescription.
Probiotics should be used with caution and under the supervision of a doctor when taken alongside immunosuppressive drugs or chemotherapy.
