Therapeutic and pharmacological effects:
Calcium is a crucial mineral for maintaining bone health throughout life. Meanwhile, vitamin D can help calcium absorption in the intestine; therefore, it impacts the homeostasis of calcium in the body. Due to the physiological demands of growth and the low vitamin D content in breast milk, infants and children have a high need for vitamin D. Therefore, deficiency of vitamin D is common during these stages. Severe and prolonged vitamin D3 deficiency in children leads to rickets, a bone-softening disease, while in adults it can cause osteomalacia. Among the elderly, it increases the risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures.
Vitamin D3 is also crucial for supporting immune function and muscle activity and may help lower the risk of various cancers and autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis (MS). Moreover, it may reduce the risk of heart conditions such as congestive heart failure (CHF) and high blood pressure (hypertension), as well as decrease the likelihood of diabetes and hyperlipidemia (high blood cholesterol).
Iron deficiency is the common cause of anemia, which is called iron deficiency anemia (IDA). Iron is a mineral that the body needs for growth and development. Using iron, our body synthesizes hemoglobin (a protein in red blood cells that transports oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body) and myoglobin (a protein that is primarily found in muscles that help them access oxygen). Also, our body needs iron for the synthesis of some hormones. After the age of 4 months, the body’s need for iron increases in breastfed infants. To meet this requirement, in addition to breast milk, iron supplements should be used to ensure proper growth and development. Prolonged iron deficiency may induce some problems in children’s physical development and neurological, mental, cognitive, behavioral, and memory development.
A liposome is a drug delivery system in which active pharmaceutical ingredients are encapsulated inside very small lipid particles to form a liposomal molecule. This dosage form absorbs more easily in the body; as a result, a higher concentration of the drug reaches the target organs. Due to the lack of direct contact of iron with the digestive system, liposomal iron does not have common gastrointestinal side effects such as metallic taste, constipation, and stomach pain. Also, it affects the gums and teeth minimally and does not cause black teeth. Of note, it has no interaction with other drugs and foods, such as dairy products and milk.
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin essential for growth, development, vision maintenance, and the immune system. Vitamin A deficiency may lead to weakened resistance to infections, night blindness (nyctalopia), and stunted growth.
Zinc is an essential mineral for growth and tissue repair, playing a key role in the body. Zinc deficiency reduces the body’s defense against infections.
Side effects:
Zinc, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin D3 are generally well-tolerated at the recommended doses and do not cause significant side effects.
Taking a high dose of zinc may cause copper deficiency and sideroblastic anemia (a rare type of anemia that affects red blood cell production).
Excessive consumption of vitamin D leads to the development of hyperphosphatemia, hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria (high level of calcium in the urine), and hyperphosphatemia, which can lead to cardiovascular and kidney damage. The symptoms of excessive consumption of vitamin D include anorexia, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, weight loss, excessive urination, enuresis, sweating, headache, thirst, drowsiness, and dizziness.
The common gastrointestinal side effects of iron are abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. In the liposomal form, iron ions do not come into direct contact with the mucous membrane of the digestive system, and common gastrointestinal side effects are minimized.
Drug interactions:
This product does not have any significant drug interactions with pediatric medications.
Due to the liposomal form of iron in this product, no interactions will occur with dairy products, milk, or other drugs and minerals such as zinc.
However, because the product contains vitamin D, it may interact with other products containing vitamin D and calcium, thiazide diuretics, digoxin, anticonvulsants such as carbamazepine, phenobarbital, or phenytoin, cholestyramine, and paraffin. Therefore, if you use any of these medications, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Warnings and precautions:
While using this product, it is important to assess the intake of vitamin A, D, and iron from fortified foods, dietary supplements, and other concurrently prescribed medications to avoid vitamin toxicity.
Follow the doctor’s instructions or the recommended dosage and avoid exceeding the maximum prescribed amount.
To ensure proper dosage, use the graduated dropper included in the package.
If any severe side effects occur (particularly symptoms of hypercalcemia) or signs of an allergic reaction, discontinue the use of the product and consult a doctor immediately.
Contraindications:
Avoid using this product if you have a history of allergy to any of its ingredients.
Do not use this product if you have hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis, hemolytic anemia, hypercalcemia (high serum calcium levels), metastatic calcification, signs of vitamin D toxicity, malabsorption syndrome, hypersensitivity to vitamin D, or reduced kidney function.
Do not administer this product to children being treated with acitretin or calcipotriol.
Storage conditions:
Store at a temperature below 25°C, away from light, moisture, and freezing, and out of reach of children.
