Therapeutic and pharmacological effects:
The most common reason for anemia is iron deficiency. Iron is a mineral that the body needs for growth and development. Using iron, our body synthesizes hemoglobin (a protein in red blood cells that transports oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body) and myoglobin (a protein that is primarily found in muscles that help them access oxygen). Also, our body needs iron for the synthesis of some hormones. Body demands for iron in breastfed infants increase after four months of age. As a result, to supply the iron needed by children, supplements should be used. Prolonged iron deficiency may induce some problems in children’s physical development and neurological, mental, cognitive, behavioral, and memory development.
A liposome is a drug delivery system in which active pharmaceutical ingredients are encapsulated inside very small lipid particles to form a liposomal molecule. This dosage form absorbs more easily in the body; as a result, a higher concentration of the drug reaches the target organs. Due to the lack of direct contact of iron with the digestive system, liposomal iron does not have common gastrointestinal side effects such as metallic taste, constipation, and stomach pain. Also, it affects the gums and teeth minimally and does not cause black teeth. Of note, it has no interaction with other drugs and foods, such as dairy products and milk.
Calcium is a crucial mineral for maintaining bone health throughout life. On the other hand, vitamin D can help calcium absorption in the intestine; therefore, it impacts the homeostasis of calcium in the body. Additionally, infants and children have a higher need for vitamin D because of the physiological demands during growth and development as well as the low vitamin D content in breast milk. As a result, deficiency of this vitamin is common during this stage.
Severe and prolonged vitamin D3 deficiency in children leads to rickets, a bone-softening disease, while in adults it can cause osteomalacia. Among the elderly, it increases the risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures. Vitamin D3 is also crucial for supporting immune function and muscle activity and may help lower the risk of various cancers and autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis (MS). Moreover, it may reduce the risk of heart conditions such as congestive heart failure (CHF) and high blood pressure (hypertension), as well as decrease the likelihood of diabetes and hyperlipidemia (high blood cholesterol).
One of the essential fat-soluble vitamins for growth, development, vision maintenance, and immune system strengthening is vitamin A. Therefore, vitamin A deficiency leads to reduced resistance to infections, night blindness, and stunted growth.
Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant (protects cells from damage and oxidative stress) and may enhance the immune system.
The B-group vitamins are a collection of eight water-soluble vitamins essential for various metabolic processes as well as proper nervous system function. These vitamins help the body convert food to energy; hence, they may cause an efficient metabolism. Also, these vitamins have important roles in the production of red blood cells (RBCs). Folic acid, or vitamin B9, may act as a cofactor in many biological reactions. As a result, its deficiency may lead to increased homocysteine levels.
Vitamin B12 could help the synthesis of nucleoprotein and myelin. Also, not only may it contribute to cell regeneration and normal growth, but it could also ensure RBCs’ health.
Thiamin, vitamin B1, is an essential coenzyme that is necessary for carbohydrate metabolism, leading to energy production.
Riboflavin, vitamin B2, is vital for cellular respiration. It is involved in redox reactions, intermediary metabolism, and maintaining RBCs.
Vitamin B3 can be absorbed easily in the body. As a cofactor in the mitochondrial respiratory chain, can help energy production.
Last but not least, vitamin B6 is necessary for the metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates, and lipids. Vitamin B6 deficiency can negatively affect peripheral nerves, skin, mucous membranes, and the hematopoietic system.
