Common side effects are including, metallic taste in the mouth, gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

High doses exceeding 40 mg/day may reduce copper absorption.

Drug interactions:

• Zinc may reduce the absorption of quinolone antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, etc.), cephalexin, tetracyclines (doxycycline, minocycline), and penicillamine. Maintain a minimum 3-hour interval between zinc and these medications.
• Zinc may also interact with integrase inhibitors (cabotegravir, dolutegravir, elvitegravir) used for HIV treatment. Consult your doctor before use.

Warnings and precautions:

Vegetarians, individuals undergoing dialysis, alcoholics, and those who have had bariatric surgery may need additional zinc.

Conditions like Crohn’s disease and short bowel syndrome may impair zinc absorption and increase urinary excretion.
